Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen during our first session?

In our first meeting we will discuss, in complete confidence, why you are seeking counselling, what you would like to achieve and how we could work together. There is no obligation to continue with counselling, but it is an opportunity for me to find out a little about you and for you to see whether you feel comfortable working with me as your counsellor.

How will I know if counselling is right for me?

During our first meeting you will get an idea about how counselling works and how you will feel talking to a therapist. Many people are apprehensive about attending counselling, but this is completely normal.

What if I don’t know what to say?

It can be difficult to talk to a complete stranger about some of the most sensitive areas of your life. Sometimes the conversation might flow easily while at other times it may feel more difficult to talk. This is all part of the therapy and I am trained to help and guide you through this process.

How often are the sessions?

After the initial consultation, if we decide to work together, we then agree a suitable time and day for us to meet once a week.

How long will I be in counselling for?

The time frame for counselling varies considerably. At our first meeting we will discuss and set an agreed initial time frame for working together. We will review the therapy on a regular basis, usually six weeks.
